Search engine optimisation or “SEO” is the process of generating website traffic from the “organic”, “free”, “natural” or “editorial” search results on search engines.
Search engine optimisation is an extremely powerful tool. Over 80% of all internet searches start with a Google search. What will a person doing a search for a product or service you provide find when they hit that search button?
If your website isn’t search engine optimised you’ll never get found on the world wide web, unless the person doing the search is willing to look through page after page of search results. And lets face it they’re not. It’s just like telling people how great your products and services are, then not showing them were they can get their hand on them. It just makes no sense.
Think about it for a second. Your competitors website is SEO’d and always shows up on Google’s first two results pages. Your’s on the other hand is somewhere on the ninth page. The overall result will mean that your competitors website will be viewed more then yours which 95% of the time will translate into an inquiry or even a direct sale of products or services, while your sitting there wondering why your not getting the business from your website.
Things to watch out for:
• Be wary of SEO firms and web consultants or agencies that send you email out of the blue
• No one can guarantee a #1 ranking on Google
• Be careful if a company is secretive or won’t clearly explain what they intend to do
• Choose wisely
• Be sure to understand where the money goes
